The Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS) course equips EMS professionals to meet the unique needs of older adult patients. The program explores age-related physiological changes, common geriatric conditions, and compassionate approaches to communication and care.

Recognizing atypical presentations of illness and injury

Provider Course

This 8-hour classroom course is appropriate for EMTs, paramedics, emergency medical responders, nurses, physician assistants, and physicians. Students who successfully complete the course receive a certificate, a card recognizing them as a GEMS provider for 4 years, and 8 hours of CAPCE credit.

Third Edition Online Course

This 8-hour online course brings the GEMS classroom experience to practitioners in a unique interactive format. Combining didactic content with interactive patient simulations, the GEMS Online Course is available to all EMS practitioners. Successful completion earns a GEMS provider certificate (valid for 4 years) and 8 hours of CAPCE credit, issued by NAEMT.
